Pocket construction
The steps to assemble side pockets, including pocket facings, pocket bags, and topstitching.
Where it is used

p. 5- Pin the welt to the pocket opening so the welt edges line up with the pocket frame edges. The ends of the frame on the welt must match up exactly with the ends of the frame marked on the front pant pieces. Place the welt on the right side of the garment.

p. 6- Make 45° snips at the corners of the pocket frame

p. 6- Pin the upper pocket bag on top of the already stitched welt, aligning the raw edges.

p. 6- Stitch the welt to the pocket frame along the marked line, backstitching at both ends of the frame.

p. 6- Stitch the upper pocket bag from the wrong side along the welt attachment seam, carefully matching the stitch ends.

p. 7- Turn the pocket pieces to the wrong side, carefully turning out the corners at the end of the welt.

p. 7- Press all pocket seam allowances open so the pocket bag is directed toward the inside of the pocket.

p. 7- Press the seam where the upper pocket bag is stitched on, folding the pocket bag toward the right side.

p. 8- Stitch the ends of the pocket welt frame, securing the pocket-frame corners to the seam allowances of the welt ends and the upper pocket bag allowance.

p. 9- Pin the rounded edges of the upper and lower pocket bags together, right sides facing.

p. 9- Sew a topstitch 0.1 cm from the edge around the area where the welt is set into the pocket frame (three sides).

p. 9- Stitch the edges of the upper and lower pocket bags all the way around. Seam allowance: 1.0 cm.
