1. Pin Shoulder Seams

  1. Place the back and front pieces together with the right sides facing each other. Pin along the shoulder edges. To stitch the shoulder seams, you'll need strips of knit fabric cut on the grain, 1.5 cm wide. These can be cut from jersey fabric in a color that matches your project. You can also use a silicone tape or fusible stay tape for this step.

  1. Stitch the shoulder seams on the overlocker. Press (Iron).

4. Reinforce Zipper Area and Neckline

  1. Reinforce the area on the front where the zipper will be sewn. Make sure the reinforced section extends 1 cm beyond the end of the zipper opening. Apply bias fusible tape along the neckline edges of both the back and front.

6. Cut Front Center and Pin Collar

  1. Cut the front piece for 5–6 cm along the center line. Pin one side of the collar into the neckline.

7. Sew Collar to Neckline

  1. Sew the collar onto the shirt using a straight stitch machine, making the seam 1 cm wide. Be sure to backstitch at the start and end of the seam. Press the seam allowance toward the collar.

8. Insert Zipper

  1. Insert the zipper from the collar fold mark down to the lowest point on the front, lining up the tape with the center front. You may want to baste it in place.

9. Stitch Zipper

  1. Stitch the zipper in place using a single presser foot, keeping it 0.5 cm away from the edge of the tape.

12. Secure Zipper Bottom Triangle

  1. Fold the triangle at the end of the cut to the wrong side and stitch it to the zipper tape.

  1. Topstitch the zipper 0.1 cm from the edge all the way around.

15. Wrap and Pin Collar

  1. Wrap the collar around the zipper and pin it in place. Fold the 1 cm seam allowance on the free edge of the collar to the inside.

16. Finish Collar Seams

  1. Sew the vertical seam of the collar, then turn the corners right side out. Pin the finished edge of the collar along the neckline, folding a 1 cm seam allowance inside to hide the join. Stitch by hand right in the seam line where the collar was attached. Finish by sewing a machine stitch over the same line.

17. Pin Sleeve to Armhole

  1. Insert the sleeve into the open armhole, matching the top notch of the sleeve to the shoulder seam.
